Invision Comics’ Genecy #1 is a tour de force of action, excitement and the wonder of things cosmic. Writer Gerald Cooper throws the reader immediately into the fray leaving no time to catch your breath as the story careens on a wild ride into a cosmic wonderland. The artistry of Eddy Barrows (52, Superman, Teen Titans) is enhanced by the colors of Tim Ogul and Oren Kramek. There are also some spectacular full page illustrations and a two page spread that highlight the grandeur of the story.
The first issue of Genecy follows Kaizaxx of the planet Tanaan through a prison escape, space battle, crash landing and trial by fire in battle with mystic forces as he is chosen finally as cosmic champion of the god-like entity Raknirod.
The story is engaging and quick moving. The combat sequences are thrilling and beautifully drawn and colored. The transformed Kaizaxx is a particulary visual character. Issue #1 totals 35 pages of story and there are several additional pages of character illustrations at the end. The reader is left with a sense of anticipation for upcoming issues. Issue #2 will be drawn by cover artist Diego Bernard now that Eddy Barrow has signed exclusively with DC Comics. Overall, I found Genecy to be a satisfying comic reading experience that I would recommend with confidence. I’m looking forward to the next issue!
